Inter Europol by PR1/Mathiasen Motorsport confirms driver lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fresno, California - Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 - The No. 52 Inter Europol by PR1/Mathiasen Motorsport Oreca 07 will be raced at the forthcoming 24 Hours of Daytona by Jakub ‘Kuba’ Śmiechowski, Tom Dillmann, Clément Novalak and Nick Boulle.

Kuba is the team’s Silver-graded driver and helped Inter Europol to second in the FIA WEC LMP2 standings in 2023, including the Centenary edition of Le Mans, where he and his teammates secured an unforgettable victory for the team.

Tom Dillmann and Clément Novalak, both Gold-graded drivers, have already been confirmed with Inter Europol Competition for the European Le Mans Series and now double-up duties this year in IMSA’s endurance events.

Tom has plenty of prototype experience, having previously won the Michelin Le Mans Cup in LMP3 machinery, competed in the Hypercar class and raced the Oreca LMP2 with recent success in the Asian Le Mans Series.

Clement is stepping from FIA Formula 2 to LMP2 competition in 2024 and, along with Kuba and Tom, tested with the team last month. The two French drivers duly make their race debut in green and yellow at Daytona International Speedway.

Nick is the team’s Bronze-graded driver and has plenty of Rolex 24 experience, having first raced at Daytona with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsport in 2016, where he secured a podium position. He won the LMPC class in 2017 and secured a further LMP2 podium in 2020.

The 2024 season gets underway with the ‘Roar before the Rolex 24’ on 19 January, which includes six test sessions and qualifying for the Rolex 24, which runs from 27-28 January.

Jakub Śmiechowski (Poland)
“A new year brings us new challenges! After a great 2023 season, we are focusing on IMSA this year. We have a very good and experienced team and intend to take full advantage of that. We start with the legendary race at Daytona. After the first tests in December, I am very satisfied. Of course, I have to get used to the American style, but I think we already got along perfectly during the tests. Combining the experience of Inter Europol Competition and PR1, we will certainly be strong!”

Tom Dillmann (France)
“I'm very enthusiastic to race in the IMSA series for the first season of Inter Europol stateside. To race on those legendary tracks and events with a chance to maybe add trophies and lines to the resume is something really to look forward to!”

Clément Novalak (France)
“I’m thrilled to be racing this year at the Daytona 24 hours in IMSA with Inter Europol. It was amazing to test with them last year for my first time on American soil, and I’m really looking forward to racing with them. I’ve matched well with the boys and girls over at IEC/PR1, and they’ve really helped me out in getting comfortable with the car, so I can’t wait to be back in the car at the Roar.”

Nick Boulle (USA)
"To say I am super excited to be back racing in the LMP2 class with PR1 Motorsports and the Inter Europol squad is an understatement. Inter Europol brings a lot of knowledge and history to the team for this year, and combining that with PR1 Motorsport’s focus on success, I think, will make for a potent combination.

"I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Inter Europol crew. My first working days with the team will be at the Roar Before the 24, and while it has been some time since I have gotten behind the wheel of a prototype, I think the team will help me get comfortable and back up to pace quickly as we prepare for the Rolex 24 and the season we have ahead together."

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS CLINCHES LMP2 CHAMPIONSHIP

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS CLINCHES LMP2 CHAMPIONSHIP

For Immediate Release

Braselton, Georgia, [October 16, 2023] — PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports celebrated a triumphant conclusion to the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season by capturing both the LMP2 Team and Driver championships at the 26th Motul Petit Le Mans race held last Saturday at Michelin Road Atlanta.

In a thrilling display of resilience and skill, the No. 52 Wynns/Max Connect/RainX/Client Command/Apex Protect Oreca 07 LMP2 entry, piloted by Ben Keating, Paul-Loup Chatin, and Alex Quinn, overcame challenges and battled through the chaos of the 10-hour race to secure the championship titles.

The weekend commenced with the team posting the second-best time during Thursday's practices. Qualifying happened on Friday under damp track conditions, with Keating stealing the pole in the last 4 turns, by a 0.020 margin over championship contender No. 11 TDS Racing.

Race day brought both adversity and glory. Despite an early spin by pole-sitter Ben Keating, the team showcased remarkable recovery and determination. A late-race incident involving Quinn in the gravel trap tested the team's mettle, but Quinn skillfully was able to put the No. 52 back on track. Quinn handed off to Chatin, who was able to secure the third and final spot on the podium, securing the championship with a 37-point lead over rivals CrowdStrike by APR.

Bobby Oergel, team principal, commented on the roller coaster event: “What a roller coaster event petit turned into. The whole team including Ben, Paul and Alex did everything we could to win the championships. Getting hit from behind multiple times took us out of the possibility to win but a podium finish and winning both the team and driver championships makes it a great year for sure. With the level of the LMP2 category being so high I am over the moon being able to win 5 (whether it be driver, team or North America Endurance Cup) championships in a row and over 20 of them since our team entered IMSA in 2010. I can’t thank our whole crew, current and all alumni drivers enough for these accomplishments.”

Ray Mathiasen, team principal, acknowledged the challenges faced during the race: “We had the pace to win this race and were P1 after 8 hours when two incidents pushed the No. 52 back during the last 2 hours of the race. Lady Luck played a significant role; good and bad. However we managed to finish on the podium and win another championship. Leslie and I are very proud of how the team performed this year against a strong field in LMP2. We want to thank everyone associated with the Wynn’s No. 52 car this year. Winning the championship was not easy. It was a great season!”

Ben Keating expressed his gratitude: "I can’t put it into words. This team is really special. We have all been family for the past 3 years. We have found a way to accomplish the goals one way or another. We have overcome adversity. We have been lucky and unlucky. We have been really fast and not so fast. But, we have found a way to win. I do this for fun, and the main part of that is to be with people you enjoy. This team is made up of great people. Additionally, achieving the result makes it even more fun, and this team has found a way to achieve the results we set out to achieve. I am so grateful to PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports. This has just been really special.”

Paul-Loup Chatin emphasized the significance of the team's flawless performance: “I am really happy to win the IMSA Championship with Pr1 and Ben Keating without forgetting Alex who deserved this title too. I can’t thank all the PR1/Mathiasen crew enough for the amazing job they have done all year long. We made zero mistakes and it was the key to win. It’s really a team victory and I am proud of that. It is my first full season in IMSA so it means a lot to me.”

Alex Quinn, appreciative of the team's effort, said: “I’m incredibly happy to have helped this amazing team to take the championship win. It has been a really competitive championship and I have learnt so much throughout all the four races I took part in. I cannot thank the team enough and look forward to the future.”

For the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the California-based team announced a new partnership with polish-based team and 24 Hours of Le Mans winners, Inter Europol Competition. The team will be known as Inter Europol by PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports. Jakub (Kuba) Śmiechowski is confirmed as the team’s Silver-graded driver for the endurance rounds. The full driver line-up will be announced shortly.

“Our new affiliation with Inter Europol Competition should put us in a good position to obtain another championship trophy next year!” concluded Ray Mathiasen, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports team principal.

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS FINISHES STRONG IN CHALLENGING 61ST ROLEX 24 HOURS AT DAYTONA

Wednesday, February 1st, Daytona Beach, Florida - PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports put on a strong performance in the 61st running of the prestigious Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, with the No. 52 Wynns/Max Connect/RainX/Client Command/Apex Protect Oreca 07 LMP2 finishing in seventh place after a challenging and action-packed race.

The team started from the pole position with the number No. 52 Oreca 07 LMP2 in the hands of Ben Keating, leading the race for several hours. Keating handed off to Alex Quinn, who recorded the fastest lap for the race in the LMP2 class, with a time of 1:39.205.

Later on, and after a series of yellow flags, the team dropped back to third. For the night shift, a very close battle for the lead, with a masterful drive by Paul-Loup finally put the No. 52 back in the lead of the class.

At the fifteen hour, and after almost two hours of green-flag running, a full course yellow kept the field behind the safety car for a little under 25 minutes. The No. 52 Oreca 07 LMP2 made an unscheduled pitstop after the full course yellow ended. The team was served a penalty for a full service in a closed pit, and it made the No. 52 drop to fifth place with Nicolas Lapierre behind the wheel.

Despite the setback, the team made a valiant effort to climb back up the rankings and was in third place until a spin in turn 3 with under 90 minutes remaining, cost them valuable time. The team quickly regrouped and finished the race in seventh position.

The Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona is one of the most challenging endurance races in the world, and PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports has proven once again that they are a top-tier team in the sport. The team and their talented drivers will continue to strive for success in the coming races.

“We are proud of our effort at this year’s Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona,” said Bobby Oergel, team principal of PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports. “Our team showed great resilience and determination, and we will continue to work hard to improve for future races.”

"The No. 52 Wynns/Max Connect/RainX/Client Command/Apex Protect Oreca 07 LMP2 performed almost perfectly for both weekends at the Roar where we qualified on the pole and at the Rolex 24 where we led the race for several hours until the later stages of the race when the gremlins struck once again,” said Ray Mathiasen, team principal.

“Two penalties and finally a spin out and stall with less than two hours to go when we were in a great position to finish on the podium and possibly win the race impacted our final result. Certainly a final seventh place finish is not indicative of the car's potential. I want to thank the drivers and crew whose efforts were simply outstanding over the two weeks in Daytona. I look forward to our next race in Sebring where the gremlins seem to stay away.”

Ben Keating, Driver

“What a race! I think working so hard at this for so many years and getting so close is part of the romance of this place. We did everything we could do. Everyone on the team, all the drivers, the pit crew, the engineers, EVERYONE did an amazing job. It was one of the best Rolex 24 races for me even though we didn’t have the result we wanted. It was one of those races that makes being part of a team like this so special. I am grateful to have had the last 10 days, and I am ready to do it all again!”

Nicolas Lapierre, Driver

“For sure very disappointed about the outcome, so close to the end. I had a small contact and spun at turn 3 and could not start the car then. It was not a good feeling, because we were back in the game and we could have fought for the win. Disappointed for the team. We had a good car, good teammates and in the end we couldn’t score the result we wanted. I hope they will bounce back in Sebring.“

Paul-Loup Chatin, Driver

“Mixed feeling after this race. Of course I am disappointed with the final result because all the team deserved a better end and from another side, I am proud about what we did all together since the 10 last days. We have shown that the car was fast, that the team spirit was really nice and that our lineup is very strong. So it gives me great hopes for the future races.

A massive thanks to Ben, Nico, Alex, Bobby and all the people involved with us during the last ten days, I am really happy and proud to be part of this team.”

Alex Quinn, Driver

“I really enjoyed my first 24 hour race, the end result was tough to take in, but I’m so grateful for all the team's hard work and support. I am happy with my performances, but also learned a lot that I can work on for the next races. I’m excited for Sebring, our pace is positive and now we just have to put it all together!”

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS No. 11 ENTRY SCORES 2ND PLACE FINISH AT THE LEXUS GRAND PRIX AT MID-OHIO; No. 52 FINISHES 6TH

May 17, 2022, Lexington, Ohio.- PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports No. 11 entry finished with a second place finish after leading most of the LMP2 class Lexus Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

A very successful qualifying session for the California-based team, brought the pole position for the No. 52 Oreca 07 LMP2 entry with Patrick Kelly leading the charts with a time of 1:14.340, and Steven Thomas in the No. 11 Oreca 07 LMP2, registered the second fastest time, 0.936 seconds behind Kelly. +0.936

"What a great event for the whole team," said Bobby Oergel, Team Principal. "To qualify 1st and 2nd was a perfect way to start. Sadly the No. 52 was taken out of the running by a GTD car trying to make the pit lane entry, then the No. 11 car was impacted twice causing large damage in both impacts. I am super proud of our team as a whole with a realistic possibility of both acts being on the podium", Oergel finalized.

“Tim (Lewis), engineered us a great car, Bobby (Oergel) and Marcus (Shen) called a great race, the crew did great pit stops and Jonathan drove a great race—we only missed a win because of contact” said No. 11 Driver, Steven Thomas. “The team deserved the win but we are honored to be on the podium in second place and we will keep trying to outwork our talented competitors. Never been prouder to be a small part of PR1 Mathiasen”, Thomas finalized.

“The good part of the weekend is that we finished 2nd and everyone did a fantastic job” added No. 11 Driver, Jonathan Bomarito. “The team executed flawlessly and Steven drive was amazing! The bad news is our chance at winning was taken away when we were hit in the right rear. We will move on to Watkins Glen with a lot of momentum from a good weekend overall”, Bomarito concluded.

The No. 52 Oreca 07 LMP2 driven by Patrick Kelly and Josh Pierson ended up in the 6th position after suffering some incidents with traffic during the 2-hour, 40-minute race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“Disappointing result for us in Mid-Ohio, but a few positives to take away”, said No. 52 Driver, Josh Pierson. “Although we ran into trouble which took us out of podium contention, we had a fast car underneath us and strong race pace. With just a few things going right for us we may have had a much different outcome” Pierson finalized.

4TH PLACE FOR PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS NO. 52 AT HOME RACE

May 4, 2022 – Monterey, California – What started as a promising race for the PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports No. 52 ORECA LMP2 07 and drivers Patrick Kelly and Josh Pierson who started from the front row, concluded with a 4th place finish at the Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship Presented by Motul at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Although the No. 52 struggled to find pace for the first two practices on Friday and Saturday, Patrick Kelly took charge for qualifying registering a time of 1:17.628, missing the pole position by only 0.057s.

“After a great qualifying effort, I certainly wasn’t expecting a P4 finish for the No. 52 car,” said team principal, Ray Mathiasen. “Josh and Pat had a good pace but there were too many obstacles to a better finish in a short race. I am confident we will do much better at Mid-Ohio.”

“What a pleasure it was to have Pat back in the seat with us, being able to pair him up with Josh was pretty special really,” added team principal Bobby Oergel. “This race for the No. 52 was always known to be a tough one, all things considered both Pat and Josh did a great job and nearly got on the podium with their 4th place finish. The focus now is on Mid-Ohio, with just a week between events its coming quick”, Oergel finalized.

DISSAPOINTING END TO A PROMISING WEEKEND FOR PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS NO. 11

May 4, 2022 – Monterey, California – What started as a promising race for the PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports No. 11 ORECA LMP2 07 and drivers Steven Thomas and Jonathan Bomarito who started from the pole position, concluded with a 5th place finish at the Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship Presented by Motul at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

On Saturday, Steven Thomas took the wheel of No. 11 for qualifying and marked a time of 1:17.571, obtaining the Motul Pole Award for the LMP2 category.

“We had a great start of the weekend with Steven qualifying in P1 in the #11 car,” said team principal, Ray Mathiasen. “However, finishing P5 certainly didn’t meet our expectations. There were just too many mishaps to recover from in a short race. Jonathan and Steven had the pace during the race to give me confidence we’ll do much better at Mid-Ohio” Mathiasen, finalized.

“Unfortunately, 5th place wasn’t the result we wanted,” said driver Jonathan Bomarito. “We leave Laguna Seca with some great progress on the No. 11 car. We showed more speed and see the potential moving forward! I’m happy Mid-Ohio is only two weekends away so we can keep pushing forward and get a better result.” Bomarito finalized.

“What an emotional rollercoaster this weekend was,” said team principal Bobby Oergel. “To have qualified and begin the race with the 1st and 2nd place starting positions was amazing. Both Steven and Jonathan along with the whole crew battled hard to get back in the lead and did so but it just wasn’t our weekend this time, a 5th place finish for the 11 car is all we could put in the books,” Oergel concluded.

The next event in the Lexus Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio, at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, next May 13 – May 15.

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS FINISHES FOURTH AT THE MOBIL 1 TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING PRESENTED BY ADVANCE AUTO PARTS WITH #11 ENTRY

March 22, Sebring, Florida.- After a promising start at the 70th Edition of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports #11 LMP2 entry piloted by Steven Thomas, Jonathan Bomarito and Josh Pierson ended the race in the 4th position last Saturday.

“What an emotional rollercoaster!”, said Team Principal Bobby Oergel. “The chances were looking strong to a podium finish, sadly a broken exhaust collector killed the ability to produce the type of lap times to make that happen. Steven, Josh and Jonathan did a great job and sadly it wasn’t our day to put it in the books with the #11 car.”

Weather conditions played an important role for all teams and drivers competing in the 70th edition of this mythical 12-hour race, with high temperatures taking a toll on drivers and teams.

“Another tough race for the #11 car.”, said Jonathan Bomarito. “We are making progress as a team and I’m looking forward to the next race at Laguna Seca. Congrats to the #52 car and crew, they had a great race!”, Bomarito finalized.

The next event in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is the Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championhsip Presented by Motul at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, next April 29 – May 1st.

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS #52 WINS THE MOBIL 1 TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING PRESENTED BY ADVANCE AUTO PARTS FOR THE THIRD TIME IN A ROW

March 22, 2022.- Sebring, Florida. PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports won the 70th Edition of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts in the LMP2 class, with the #52 Wynns/RainX/4Horsemen/Client Command, after a dominating performance by drivers Ben Keating, Mikkel Jensen and Scott Huffaker last Saturday at Sebring International Raceway, finishing a lap ahead of their second-place competitors.

The heat and humidity at the Florida venue, became critical factors for all teams and drivers competing in the 70th edition of this mythical 12-hour race, that also serves as the second round of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.

“It was so much hotter than other years.”, said Scott Huffaker. “We were able to use that to our advantage. I think some other teams really struggled with their drivers and the heat, and we were able to be a little bit stronger in that sense, it helped give us the win.”, Huffaker added.

“This Sebring win is likely the toughest I’ve seen with competitors and the tough weather conditions for all the drivers and teams.”, said Team Principal, Bobby Oergel. “For me it’s the hardest event on the calendar and I’m so thankful and proud of the drivers and team to win this event.”, he finalized.

Ben Keating, who also raced in the 1000 Miles of Sebring WEC race held on Friday March 18th, started the 12-hour race from the pole position. “I am still just exhausted. But it is a happy exhausted.”, Keating said. “I did 3 hours in the WEC race on Friday and 3 hours in the IMSA race on Saturday. Sebring is a very physical track, that’s tests both man and machine. Over Friday and Saturday, I burned over 11,000 calories, and I can’t eat enough to catch up. I don’t remember ever being this drained energetically”, he added.

“This was a team win, for sure. We all pulled together to do our job perfectly and this was the maximum result. I am so proud of everyone on the team. I was really happy with my performance behind the wheel. The car was amazing. All the drivers were quick. We have close to 100 guests there from Wynns and 4 Horsemen. It was just perfect!” Keating finalized.

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS #52 LMP2 LOOKING TO REPEAT SUCCESS AT THE MOBIL 1 TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING PRESENTED BY ADVANCE AUTO

March 14, Sebring, Florida.- After a 4th place finish at the 24 Hours of Daytona seven weeks ago, the #52 Wynns/RainX/4Horsemen/Client Command Oreca 07 LMP2 will be at full speed in Sebring for the 70th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts on March 19. The two-time LMP2 champion at Sebring, will fight to repeat their past success with drivers with drivers Ben Keating, Mikkel Jensen and Scott Huffaker.

This year, fifty-three cars are entered – an increase of 16 cars from a year ago – in the mythical 12-hour race that also serves as the second round of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. “I feel pretty good going into the 12 Hours of Sebring,” said Ben Keating. “There are many more competitors this year, and those competitors are better than they were last year. However, we are coming into the race as the defending ‘Wynner’, and that is a pretty good position!”.

“Our car and our drivers were quick at Sebring last year and I don’t expect anything different for 2022. This is a home race for WYNN’S and they will have a bunch of people at the race. I hope to celebrate with them at the end.” Keating finalized.

“Sebring, is one of the best tracks of the year,” added Mikkel Jensen. “Last year we had a very strong car, very strong teammates, so I think we have a good package. The field is strong, we are seven cars now, so it’s a big increase from last year. 7 strong cars with good drivers, good line ups, good teams, so it will be a tough one so I hope we can defend our win from last year. We will do whatever it takes, to try and defend it!” Jensen concluded.

“We are all very excited to get back at the track and especially to Sebring as it’s been a great place for our team over the years.” adds Bobby Oergel, team principal. “Saying it’s great is kind of a bitter sweet as I personally find this race to be the toughest on the calendar, that makes us all want to add another Sebring to the ‘Win’ column. The crew has done a great job getting things turned around from Daytona over the last month and I know our drivers have been working hard to prepare for this as well. With Ben doing the WEC 1000 Miles of Sebring and the IMSA Twelve Hours of Sebring races within 24 hours of each other it’s going to be exciting to see him pushing his abilities to the limits around this place!” Oergel finalizes.

WeatherTech Championship action at Sebring International Raceway begins Thursday, March 17 with three practice sessions for the five classes. Qualifying is set for Friday, March 18, with the race commencing the morning of Saturday, March 19.

CHALLENGING DEBUT FOR PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS #11 ENTRY AT THE ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA.

For Immediate Release

February 3, 2022 – Daytona Beach, FL - PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports kicked off the season with a challenging effort for the #11 Fear the TAFS/ End ALZ/ Chem Direct in the 60th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, held last weekend.

After a promising debut at the Roar Before the 24 and a front-row starting position, the #11 Oreca 07 LMP2 driven by Steven Thomas, Jonathan Bomarito, Josh Pierson and Harry Tincknell retired from the 24-hour endurance race, suffering from a mechanical issue just 2 hours before the checkered flag.

"Wasn’t to be at Daytona this year.", said Harry Tincknell. "It was frustrating giving it absolutely everything to succeed but not being able to extract the performance required but I guess that feeling makes winning feel even sweeter.", he added. "PR1 Motorsports will be back though and expect many wins for them and my teammates this year."

"Although the Rolex 24 didn’t quite go our way, I’m still proud of what I did as a driver and of what the team did this weekend.", said 15-year-old Josh Pierson, who made history last weekend as the youngest driver to ever race in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

"My first two stints were solid with strong pace.", said Pierson. "I got dragged down to earth in the third stint, and mechanical issues plagued us come sunrise, but even with all of that I’m still very happy with how my first IMSA race went and I want to thank the team for all their hard work. Looking forward to Sebring!", he finalized.

"While it wasn’t the result we all wanted" said Jonathan Bomarito, "everyone worked incredibly hard and I want to thank each and every member of the team."

"Thank you to the crew for their hard work. Thanks to JB, Harry and Josh for driving with me.” concluded Steven Thomas.

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS #52 FINISHES 4TH AT ROLEX 24 AT DAYTONA.

February 2, 2022 – Daytona Beach, FL - PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports finished 4th at the 60th Edition of the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona season-opener, with the #52 Wynns/RainX/4Horsemen/Client Command scoring valuable points for the 2022 IMSA Michelin North American Endurance Cup Championship.

High hopes surrounded PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports after their performance at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 where they locked the front row with their #52 and #11 entries in the LMP2 class. Co-Drivers Ben Keating, Mikkel Jensen, Scott Huffaker and Nicolas Lapierre began the race in the LMP2 pole position, in the 10-car LMP2 class with Keating behind the wheel.

"This was a tough pill for the whole PR1 team to swallow. We ended up in 4th, which is the first step off the podium." said Ben Keating. "We ran a good race the whole 24 hours. We kept our car clean. We kept it out of the garage. We ran a perfect race. We did everything we could possibly do to win the race, and this is why the final result is hard to take. Without Safety Cars, we win the race by multiple laps. But with Safety Cars that allow each car to recover lost laps and get back into the race after having issues, then we were always at risk of it being a close race."

"For whatever reason, our #52 Wynn’s car was slower on straight-line speed compared to the competition, which made us a 'sitting duck' on the restarts after a safety car." Keating added. "All of our drivers did a great job. Mikkel drove his heart out in the last 20 minutes to hang on to a podium, but the Jumbo car was just too quick."

"All-in we ran a race that we can be proud of. We ended up 8th OVERALL and 4th in-class, which is super strong. We are tied for the lead in the North American Endurance Cup points. There are some good things that came from the race, but this win is what everybody on the team really wanted and it is hard to feel good about falling short when you want it so bad." Keating finalized.

"It was a frustrating race as we seemed to be one of the favorites at the Roar last weekend." said Mikkel Jensen. "Somehow we didn’t have the pace in the Rolex 24 and we have to investigate why so we can come back stronger.".

"Big thanks to the crew for their hard work in pitlane and to my teammates for staying out of trouble so we could manage to bring the car home in 4th. Let’s come back stronger at Sebring where we need to defend last year’s win.", Jensen finalized.

Scott Huffaker said, "First of all, thanks to everyone at PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports for all their hard work all through Roar and the Rolex 24. It was definitely not the result we were looking for, but it was the best we could get.", he finalized.

"It was quite frustrating and disappointing to not end up on the podium." noted frenchman driver Nicolas Lapierre. "The team did a good job in terms of pit stops and strategy. Drivers as well. We had no mistakes, no penalties on a 24-hour race, which is quite positive and great."

"The problem was the pace was not good enough to fight for a win." he added. "From the beginning we were lacking pace, so we need to analyze what happened and react for the next race. It was my last race with PR1 for the season, So I wish all the best to drivers and for the team get the Championship again. I will be in Sebring racing WEC in the same weekend next race, so I will support them, and cheering for them and I hope they can fight back." he finalized.

PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports returns to action for another historic endurance race, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented By Advance Auto Parts at Sebring International Raceway, March 16 – 19.

PR1/MATHIASEN MOTORSPORTS WINS THE MOBIL 1 TWELVE HOURS OF SEBRING PRESENTED BY ADVANCE AUTO PARTS For Immediate Release

March 23, Sebring, Florida- After starting from pitlane and serving an early drive-through penalty, the #52 Wynns/Rain-X/Four Horsemen/Max Connect/Client Command/Valkyrie.ai Oreca 07 LMP2 went on to take its first victory of the season at the 69th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts. Drivers Ben Keating, Mikkel Jensen and Scott Huffaker made up for a heart-breaking Rolex 24 with a dominant victory at the grueling 12 hour race.

C7WNOIPA.jpeg

This is the third win in a row for PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports at the Twelve Hours of Sebring, and it sets the team and drivers up as the championship leaders in the LMP2 class with 382 points.

The PR1 crew will continue to defend their lead after an almost three-month hiatus at the Detroit Grand Prix which will take place June 5-6.

Ben Keating

Driver

#52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07 LMP2

"What a great race! We had a perfectly clean race, and we were all quick in the car. The PR1 team did a great job. It was a full team win. To me the big moment that decided this race for us was early in the morning warm up, when Mikkel noticed that something was weird in the suspension. We had to go back to garage to replace a rear upright. This caused us to miss the recon lap, which meant we had to miss the start of the race and start from pit lane.

Sebring is the second race in the North American Endurance Championship. There were points awarded at the 4hr Mark, the 8hr Mark, and the 12Hr Mark. Not only did we score 1st place points in every segment, but I think each of the three drivers got to bring the car to the points in different segments. I know for me, driving to 1st place points at the 4 hour mark was a special part of the race.

The last 15 minutes of the race were much much closer than we had hoped for. We had built up almost a 3 minute lead and had all of it eaten up under a late Safety Car. As it turned out the 2nd place car was able to get the fuel they needed AND pull right up on our tail. The last fifteen minutes were not easy, but Mikkel kept us in front for the win. 'Wynning' is what this team is all about!"

Mikkel Jensen

Driver

#52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07 LMP2

"Starting from the pit lane with a drive through on top made us having a hard time in the beginning of the race. Ben did great to gain back and bring the car in the lead. After Scott and I could control it from the front and pulling a gap to P2.

I got nervous at the end having P2 right on my tail at the restart. We had been leading all the way through, so to give it away in the end was not an option! Super happy to get my first Sebring 12h win, and credits to the whole team for a faultless job! Can’t wait for the next one at Watkins Glen!"

Scott Huffaker

Driver

#52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07 LMP2

"I’m very happy with the result. The team performed amazing all weekend and can’t thank them enough for all their hard work. It was very exciting race!"

Ray Mathiasen

Team Principal

#52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07 LMP2

"What an exiting race! The last 20 minutes left us on the edge of our seats. The car performed flawlessly all day after repairing a problem during warm-up. I want to thank our drivers and crew for a job well done. I’m so glad we were finally able to travel to a race once again and witness our third win in a row at Sebring."

Bobby Oergel

Team Principal

#52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca 07 LMP2

"What a hard-fought win that was. We had an issue in the warm-up that caused us to miss the recon and start from pit lane nearly a lap down. Turning that into the win was off the charts! Ben, Scott and Mikkel along with the entire crew did such a great job again. I cannot wait to get to the next event."
